Rape of the Night

Joel Audu

Tonight in wait she lay
Only to be waylaid
Trembling, her night
Afraid of tip toeing steps
Enroute her shell
A personal hell
Why the nocturnal check
Always not on her beck?
Fingers touching
Sweet teen clutching
To her ear fear whispering
Her cradle nightly bugled
In private depriving too
Teen’s little privacy

Why pour indelible stain
Soap can’t clean?
Why cause pain
Drugs, drip can’t tame?
Too many torn parts
Threads can’t patch
Nightly slumbers morality
For infidelity’s plunders
Substance of tomorrow
Plummets into torment
From nightly blunders
Tears tissues can’t wipe
Broken toys lay desolate
By footsteps on her way
A cold night, warm blanket
Devoid of destination
Drown in destitution’s pool
Yet feet snickers
While she quivers
After nightly parties
Rape gets bail
From morning’s jail.
